Service of songs for the late former Minister of Internal Affairs, Chief Alex Ibru, was yesterday held at his Agbarah-Otor country home amid tight security.

In his sermon entitled ‘Weep Not for Alex’,  Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Revd Nicholas Okoh, said only in God’s presence that man can find eternal rest, adding that no matter how highly placed,  people have one form of affliction or the other.

The Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan and his deputy, Prof Amos Utuama took the second and third reading respectively.

However, security has been beefed up in Agbarha-Otor, Ughelli LGA, Delta State, home town of the Ibrus as the remains of the publisher of the Guardian Newspapers, Mr Alexander Uruemu Ibru is laid to rest today at the Ibru Ecumenical Centre.

Our correspondent who visited Agbarha-Otor reports that security operatives were seen patrolling the Ughelli/Agbarha road and the Agbarha main town as prominent persons from all walks of life would make their way to the town today for the funeral ceremony the late the Ibru.

The town is also wearing a face lift, following the general clean up, road maintenance and beautification of the town that was brought to fame by the Ibrus.

All hands were on deck at the burial arena, opposite the Ibru centre as temporary tents were being built for the comfort of expected guests.
