The Court of Appeal sitting in Benin, Edo State, has upheld the election of Senator Akpor Pius Ewherido, the senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District.

The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Ighoyota  Amori, had challenged the declaration of Senator Ewherido of the Democratic People’s Party, DPP, as winner of the election, claiming that the election was inconclusive.

Delivering its judgment, the Appeal Court upheld the judgment of the tribunal that the petitioner, Chief Amori, was unable to prove his case on the balance of probability. It further said that the senatorial election in Delta Central Senatorial District was conducted in substantial compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, contrary to the petitioner’s assertion

Commenting on the victory, a DPP stalwart, Chief Okiemute Oviri Okwagbe, commended the judiciary for its forthrightness. He said the judgment of the Appeal Court has further reinforced the fact that “Senator Ewherido won the election  clean and clear.

“Our Senator can now focus fully on uplifting the much marginalized people of Delta Central”, he said.
