Education Minister Ruqayyatu Rufai  said on Monday that her ministry would reposition the education sector to play a more effective role in the nation’s human capital development.

Rufai gave the assurance in Minna at the opening of a workshop on quality assurance for inspectors of education at federal and state levels.

“More than ever before, we are now under intense pressure to revamp our nation’s education system,” she stressed.

She said  the public outcry on declining standards in the sector, coupled with the dismal performances of students at final examinations had underscored  the urgency to revitalise the sector.

Rufai, therefore, called for the establishment of quality assurance units at all levels of governments as a means of enhancing efficiency, stressing that capacity building for education officers could be enhanced by such efforts.

“It is our firm belief that the quality assurance units in all the states should be repositioned, so as to give boost to Mr President’s transformation agenda in the educational sector”, she said, adding that it was an imperative as “it is the aggregate of states that make up Nigeria”.
