A TEAM of policemen from Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Abia State police command are to be dispatched to the Benin office of the National Board for Technical Education [NABTEB] in continuation of investigation into the arrest of one Chetachi Obi, said to be an aide to a member of the House of Representatives from the state, for allegedly writing the on-going Nov/Dec NABTEB examination for the lawmaker.

The assistant commissioner of police in charge of state CID, Mr. Joseph Micloth, who disclosed this, yesterday, in a telephone interview, insisted that investigation into the matter was on-going.

According to Micloth, the examination body has no office in Abia, so the command would dispatch a team to Benin, where the board’s headquarters is located, to cross-check  the allegations against Obi  and her boss.

“We are still investigating the matter. NABTEB has no office in the state. We will go to Benin  to carry on with the investigation”, the CID boss explained.

Meanwhile, Obi, who has been released on bail, denied, yesterday, the allegation that she wrote examination for her boss, describing it as a set-up by the political opponents of the lawmaker.

According to her, she was called by an unknown person to come to Unique Comprehensive High School, Isuochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State centre for the examination where she was arrested by policemen who took her to state CID Umuahia, the state capital.

The suspect said  she was confronted at the state CID with a petition allegedly which, she claimed, bore only signatures and no names.

She claimed that the lawmaker has WASCE  and GCE  and therefore did not need another certificate. However, the WAEC certificate belonging to her boss, which was tendered, showed the lawmaker had only a pass in English Language and failed in Mathematics.

The examination was taken in 1984. Obi however, claimed that the maker made up the deficient papers which she promised to present before the end of the day (yesterday). However, the GCE result she claimed was not available at press time.
