Imoke explains delay in payment of Oct salaries

Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State has attributed the delay in the payment of October salary to workers in the state to the disagreement between the government and the organized labour on the implementation of the N18, 000 new minimum wage.

Imoke who was spoke yesterday on the occasion of unveiling the 2011 Calabar Carnival said the money for October and November salaries was however intact in the bank and would be paid immediately the grey areas were sorted out.

There was an allegation that senior civil servants from Grade Level 08 and above had tricked the state government at the level of discussion and increased their salary by over 140 percent against 100 percent which was supposed to be paid to workers across board.

Imoke said the carnival has started to create impart on the economy of the state adding that over 1.4 million people attended the carnival last year.
