The Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) has said it will continue to protest the outcome of the last local council election in Lagos state until justice is done just as the party’s candidate in the Kosofe Local Council election, Alhaji Shola Lawal said he won the election in that area relying on reports of party agents in the area.

Alhaji Shola Lawal called on the chairman of Lagos State Independent Electoral Commision, LASIEC to release the result of the election without further delay.

He noted since the election was held, the party has not received any official result, adding that “each time we go to their office, they will tell us to go to our local council,” he said.

The state party chairman, Prince Babatunde Sarumi who described the election as flawed added that the party will join forces with other parties to ensure that justice is done. “What we are trying to do in ACPN in conjunction with Labour Party and APGA is to meet with the leader of the party, Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu for discussion with a view to addressing these issues in the interest of democracy. If that fails, we can then go to the High Court because if you go to the tribunal you will be wasting your time. We might even seek an injunction that none of the chairmen sworn-in is allowed to function. That is our plan now.”

Prince Sarumi said if ACN who pride themselves as democrats can attacked INEC and federal government in the general election to do the right thing, then ACN must be compelled do release the results to the parties. “If ACN are claiming they are democrats, then the election has to be free and fair. They attacked the INEC and federal government the other time. Now that they conducted the council election where results are not given to the parties that took part in election, it is very undemocratic,” he lamented.

Asked if the two options mentioned failed to yield any result, he said: “we are Lagosians, we cannot allow the state to boil and we are peace loving party-men, we have to go back to the drawing table and prepare for 2015 so that such thing does not happen again.”
