ABUJA—THERE was a twist in the Sokoto State governorship race Thrusady as hundreds of women and youths from the state stormed the National Secretariat of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, to purchase expression of Interest and nomination forms for Senator Abubakar Umar Gada.

They collected the forms from the PDP Director, Mobilisation and Organisation, Chief Adewole Fatona and presented them to the Director-General, Gada Campaign Organisation and Yerima Sokoto, Alhaji Mahe Denge, who then presented same to the aspirant.

Leader of the group, Hajia Maryam Mohammed Kende and the Youth Leader, Shettima Rabah, said the move was imperative because of the people needed a change in Sokoto State, which they alleged had been in very bad shape since Governor Magatakarda Wamakko came on board.

According to them, the presence of government was not felt in the state and pleaded with Gada to vie for the election to rescue the people from bad governance.

Responding, Senator Gada described the gesture as challenging adding that it was uncommon in the political history of Nigeria for the downtrodden to come together and purchase nomination forms for aspirants, stressing that he would not refuse, since that would be a sacrifice for Sokoto State.

“I am standing before you with a motion, a motion with the travail and abuses suffered by men and women in Sokoto state. The down trodden women found themselves where they are not supposed to be because of failure of governance. Sokoto state is a place where development, education originated and spread to Sub-Sahara Africa. But today, the state is so bastardized by bad governance,’’ he added, describing Wamakko as a bad product which can not be sold in the market.

’’He (Wamakko) is a bad product that wants to redeem his battered image. I appeal to Sokoto state National Assembly members to abandon this bad product. They should come home and join hands with us to develop the state,” he further added
