Asaba—Delta State House of Assembly, Thursday, passed a resolution calling on Presi-dent Goodluck Jonathan to immediately intervene in the crisis rocking Federal University of Petroleum Resources, FUPRE, Effurun, to forestall possible breakdown of law and order in the state.

The resolution followed a motion brought “under matters of urgent public importance” by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr. Basil Ganagana.

The motion read: “That this Honourable House calls on President Goodluck Jonathan to urgently intervene in the crisis rocking Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Ugbomro, Delta State, by directing the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqqyatu Rufai to follow the path of decorum and due process in handling the matter plaguing the university to avert any avoidable break down of law and order.”

Ganagana submitted that unless there was a presidential intervention, the protracted crisis in the institution, which he  alleged was being fuelled by Rufai, could derail the current peace and security of the Niger Delta.
