A NOTORIOUS ex-militant who turned to armed robbery has been killed by the police in Rivers State during a robber operation. The State Police Public Relations Officer, Ben Ugwuegbulam, told Crime Alert that the deceased ex-militant met his death when he and two others, attempted snatching a car from it’s owner at Tombia Road, GRA, area of the State.
The police spokesman who did not disclose the name of the ex-militant said he died from injuries sustained during an exchange of gunfire with anti-robbery policemen attached to police patrol 2 in the division. He said: “We received a distress call that armed robbers were operating along Tombia Road, GRA, and a team of anti-robbery policemen were asked to go there and on arriving the scene, they accosted the robbers who attempted to snatch a Vento car from it’s owner.
“The robbers, on sighting them, opened fire and during the exchange of gunfire that ensued, the ex-militant was shot severally and he died in the process, while his colleagues escaped with bullet wounds.”
