LAGOS—Nigeria’s pioneer brewery, Lagos Brewery, has won the prestigious award as the Best-Kept Industrial Premises for 2011.
The award which is being won by Nigerian Breweries for the second year running was presented to the company by the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, MAN, during the 40th Annual General Meeting of the Apapa branch of the association.
The Environmental Committee of the association which assessed all industrial premises within its jurisdiction scored Lagos brewery ‘A’ in all key indicators such as external premises, internal premises, utilities, refuse depot, pollution and compensatory and assessment marks.
The committee observed that all safety devices within the brewery were fully engaged and that personal protective equipment was very much adopted as a first line management engagement for employees on the shop floor. It also observed that all emergency stop devices were clearly marked and functioning. The assessment by the committee also showed that all emergency evacuation procedure were known to and adopted by all the staff of the brewery. Both access to the factory and the aesthetics level at the internal and external premises were analysed and shown to be at excellent levels.
The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria congratulated the management of the Brewery for keeping an excellent workplace and maintaining a high degree of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) values.
The health, safety and environmental condition of Lagos Brewery as assessed by the environmental committee of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria reflect a key strategic indicator of the Sustainability policy of Nigerian Breweries.
