LAGOS—Immediate past president of Ikeja Pearl Lions Club, Lioness Chinyere Annie Okonkwo has said that access to quality education was critical to the nation’s development .

She noted that education as the bedrock of societal growth cannot deliver great learning and wisdom if it is not qualitative.

Okonkwo, who made these remarks during her valedictory address in Lagos, weekend, said these factors propelled her club into investing millions of naira to change the face, learning environment and character content of Girls Secondary School, Oba, Anambra State, in their Lions Across the Border Service Campaign .

The multi-million naira project which is set for commissioning by Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State on November 25, she said: “Is our wake-up contribution to the dire straits our educational infrastructure suffers,” adding that it takes the spirit of a lion to embark and complete the project within the one year schedule.

The project which is an expansive administrative block complete with an IT centre contains the staff offices, a well equipped library and the principal’s office.
