Ibadan – A herbalist, Fatai Bayonle, was on Monday arraigned before an Ibadan Magistrates’ court for giving false vision likely to cause a breach of public peace.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Foluke Adedosu, told the court that Bayonle conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by telling his victim, Oluwakemi Olalere, that a certain woman was after her life.
Adedosu said that the accused lied to his victim with the intention of extorting money from her, adding that this led to a crisis in Olalere’s family.
She told the court that the accused committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 249(D) of the criminal code cap 38 Vol. II Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000.
The judge granted the accused bail in the sum of N20, 000 with two sureties and adjourned the case to Dec. 15 for further hearing.
Businessman arraigned for allegedly obtaining N210,000 fraudulently
While in Lagos a 35-year-old businessman, Murtala Balogun, was on Monday arraigned at the Somolu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly obtaining N210,000 under false pretence.
Balogun, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinlebi Adegoke, said the accused, hiding under the pretence of doing some printing jobs for Mr Kumuyi Yemisi, converted the money to his personal usage.
Adegoke said the accused committed the offences on Nov. 10, at Durosimi St. Somolu, Lagos.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 419 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2003.
The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi adjourned the case till Dec. 5 for mention after she granted Balogun a N150,000 bail, with a surety in like sum. (NAN)
