The official insurer of all the national teams of Nigeria, Industrial and General Insurance (IGI) has introduced an age-group for players between the ages of 15 and 19.

The final of the tournament tagged IGI U-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament comes up between November 28 and December at the Onikan stadium, Lagos.

According to project coordinator, Opeyemi Lawal disclosed at the weekend that the programme commenced in October with a screening exercise which has culminated in the final number of 80 regular and 20 provisional players, making it a hundred.

They have been constituted into four teams that will contest for the title. The two teams with the highest number of points meet each other in the final while the other two play the classification match.

The executive vice chairman of the insurance giants, Remi Olowude who was represented by the deputy managing director, Rotimi Fashola underscored the essence of the programme. He said, “IGI embarked on the social responsibility programme of creating a year-round platform for millions of football talents across the country and to enable them pursue a career in professional football.”

The chief executive said “at the final stage of the screening, 52 outstanding players will be selected and kept together to train routinely for possible selection by local and foreign scouts.”
