Former national triple jump record holder, Rosa Collins-Okah has called on ex-internationals with extra means to come to the aid of dying Nigerian athletics.

Outspoken Collins-Okah was speaking against the background of inactivity by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria as the 2012 Olympic Games in London is within the distance. She pointed out that sports officials have failed the sport and the youths and therefore ex-internationals should step in and attempt to make a difference.

“I don’t know when our country will stop the fire brigade approach to preparations for the Olympics. The Olympics is next year and we don’t see any activity going on. I wonder if we can get a medal with this kind of laid back attitude,She said.

Collins- Okah, the first Nigerian woman to jump a 13m mark in the triple jump, stated that ex-internationals should not stand aside and watch things go totally bad.

“It would be nice if former athletes can come together and help the sport. I’ve seen someone like Chioma Ajunwa coming out to do something. I’m interested in doing something too that is why I’m talking. Everyone of us should try and contribute our little quotas.

If I make an effort and another ex-athlete makes another, our collective efforts can really go a long way to revive the sport.

There is nothing really going on and this is not good for the young ones that are coming behind us,” stated the athlete who in 2010 bailed out the AFN from a financial predicament.
