LAGOS – Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Lagos State chapter, Thursday, accused the Senate and its leadership of imposing Mrs. Roli George as Lagos State representative on the National Population Commission, NPC, contending that she could not represent the interests of Lagos.

According to ACN, by that imposition, the Senate, especially its leadership, has shown that it has an infinite capacity to trivialize important national issues with its bias for partisanship.

Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Mr Joe Igbokwe, stated that what the Senate leadership did was sabotaging an important process by pandering to pristine partisan interests.

The party stressed that by so doing, the NPC is destined to fail in Lagos “by that bizarre imposition and Lagosians still insist in the replacement of George as Lagos State representative in NPC.

“We witnessed as the Senate leadership, acting the scripts of the PDP, insisted in foisting someone that was neither nominated by the people and government of Lagos as our representative in the NPC, despite the stiff protest of our three senators and several other members of the Senate from other parts of Nigeria.”

“We want to state that the Senate leadership went ahead to impose Mrs. George, who is the wife of PDP’s leader, Bode George, on Lagos, when the process demands the recommendation of the representative by the state governor to the President. We note that Governor Babatunde Fashola had written to the President on this issue and forwarded the authentic nominee of Lagos State only for Mrs. George to be nominated, not as a true representative of Lagos State but as a political settlement to her husband.”
