Abuja – The Minister of Youth Development, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, has ordered the management of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to stop posting new corps members to Borno and Yobe States.

A statement by his Senior Assistant on Media, Mr Julius Ogunro, on Thursday in Abuja quoted the minister as directing that no new corps members under the current Batch “C“ should be posted to the two states, while those already posted there would be redeployed to Benue and Nasarawa for orientation.

He, however, promised that corps members would be posted to all states of the federation except Borno as soon as they concluded their orientation programme in Benue and Nasarawa respectively.

The statement said the minister’s directive was sequel to the ongoing controversy and confusion over the fate of would-be corps members originally posted to Borno and Yobe States.

Abdullahi assured all corps members that government was working hard to ensure their safety and security, and commended them for their unalloyed service to their fatherland.

In compliance with the directive, the authority of the NYSC has announced that as a result of security challenges in Borno and Yobe States, corps members would not be posted there.

Mrs Clara Babatunde, Head, Public Relations Unit of NYSC, said in a statement that the corps members posted to the two states would not commence the orientation programme slated for Nov. 15 with their colleagues in other states.

She said the two states would now commence the mandatory orientation programme on Dec. 1 to be concluded on  Dec. 15.

Babatunde said Nasarawa orientation camp at Keffi would host corps members posted to Yobe State, while the Benue  camp at Wanune would host their counterparts in Borno.

She directed all the affected corps members to proceed to the camps with all relevant documents, warning that no registration by proxy would be accepted. (NAN)
