Man arraigned for stealing from church

Abuja – The Police on Tuesday arraigned a carpenter, Ifeanyi Okeke, 27, before an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge of church breaking and theft.

The Police Prosecutor Emeka Oganah told the court that Mr Agbo Phillip reported at Lugbe Police station that on Nov. 22, the accused broke into a Catholic Church in Abuja, and made away with items valued at N265,000.

Oganah said that the stolen items included a keyboard, an amplifier, two speakers and two microphones.

He said that when the accused was caught and questioned, he refused to disclose the whereabouts of the stolen items.

The prosecutor said that the offence was contrary to Sections 354 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty and the prosecutor asked for a date for hearing of the case in view of the plea of the accused.

She said that the surety must be a civil servant of any grade level living within the jurisdiction of the court.
