Mosogar monarch, chiefs at loggerheads over banishment of 5 leaders

By Emma Amaize
WARRI— Mosogar Council of Chiefs in Delta State has rejected the decision of the traditional ruler, HRM S. Omene Udurhie I, to send five prominent leaders of the community on exile.

The leaders are: Dr. Omonigho Ogbakpa, the Ojorhofor of Mosogar; Mr. Oghenedoro, Chief Wilson Omene, a former council chairman, Chief Joe Omene Ejorhofo and A. B. Bobor, a former Commissioner in the state.

The council made its position known on the face-off between the monarch and the chiefs at a meeting presided over by the Ugo of Mosogar Kingdom, Chief P. Ojarikre, saying that exiling of the leaders was unacceptable.

The embattled chiefs had given the monarch 24 hours to retract the publication ostracising and de-robing them.

They demanded an unreserved apology to the affected persons for what they described as defamation and payment of N100 million as damages, failing which they would seek legal action against him (monarch) in a court of law.

Among those who attended the meeting were Chief Billy Atufe, the Unuevworo of Mosogar; Chief Austine Omene, the Nohwa of Mosogar; Chief Akambe Odo; Chief Doro America; Chief Oboko Omene; Chief Glory Efemini; Chief Freeborn Nana; Chief Johnson Ogberahwe; Chief Bernard Abinoko and Chief Omene.
