The President General, Unity Schools Old Students’ Association (USOSA), Mr Albert Okumagba has disclosed that the association would use the 2011 plenary session of its stakeholders to brainstorm, make recommendations and align forces with the Federal Government on how to improve secondary school education in Nigeria.

He noted that the USOSA Plenary session will be held alongside the Grand Home Coming and Re-union of the Federal Government College Ogbomoso, an event meant to reconnect students of the school which was founded in 1977 adding that Plans are in place to accommodate as many as one thousand old students who will be attending from the different national and international chapters of the Association.

Speaking at the press briefing which brought together key leaders of Association, Okumagba said that the theme of the plenary session which is titled: “preserving the labour of our heroes past” will address the decadence in the education sector and proffer solution to it.

The keynote speaker at the event Okumagba reiterated will be anchored by Professor Fidelis Odita QC, SAN, a distinguished alumnus of the Federal Government College, Warri as the Honourable Minister of State for Education Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike will be sharing the latest perspectives on Government’s plan for secondary education on Nigeria.

Also speaking, President of Federal Government College Ogbomoso, Old Students’ Association (FEGOCOOSA) Mr. Joseph Tegbe says :“this plenary session will throw up major issues that are guaranteed to evoke the sense of patriotism in all old students of Federal Government colleges towards doing something, no matter how little to restore the glory of the Unity Schools as envisaged by the founding fathers”.

The USOSA event which comes up on Saturday November 19, 2011, according to the President is being hosted by the Federal Government College Ogbomoso Old Students’ Association (FEGOCOOSA) and co-hosts by the Old Students’ Association of Federal Government Girls College Oyo, and Federal Government College Ilorin respectively. The event starts by 10am and holds at the new Assembly hall of Federal government College, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
