GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State and Kwara State former governor, Senator Bukola Saraki, are among eminent Nigerians to be conferred with the Fellow of the National Institute for Labour Studies, FNILS.

Others Professor Oladapo Afolabi , a renowned industrial relations expert, Mr. Victor Eburajolor and the only woman to have headed a labour centre in Nigeria; the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, Comrade Peace Obiajulu.

They will get the award on November 17, 2011, during the 7th edition of Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies, MINILS, Ilorin, annual National Labour Relations Summit.

A statement by the management of MINILS said the Summit will be chaired by Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State while Alhaji AbdulFatah Ahmed, Governor of Kwara State will be the Special Guest of Honour.

This year’s Labour Relations Summit with the main theme “Consensus Building, Conflict Management and Social Transformation in Nigeria: An Industrial Relations Perspective” is aimed at providing a platform for exchange of ideas by government, labour, employers, academia, civil society and the international community on the emerging international best practices in industrial conflict management.

The summit also has the objective of reflecting on topical work-related issues and the implications for various parties.

Justice Babatunde Adejumo, President, National Industrial Court will speak on “Building Effective Conflict Management Mechanism for Sustainable Development: A Focus on the Nigerian Labour Sector” while Professor Segun Matanmi will present another paper on “Consensus Building in the Context of Minimum Wage Determination: Issues and Challenges”

This year’s gathering of critical stakeholders in the Nigerian industrial and labour relations system), is expected to be attended by industrial and labour relations practitioners both nationally and internationally, and will focus on the contribution of critical actors in Nigerian industrial relations to nation building, in addition to appraising their capacities to impact on current social transformational process.

The summit will also focus on repositioning labour as a strategic actor in national development and sustainable democracy.
