The Osun State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has appealed to striking members of academic and non academic staff in the four tertiary institutions owned by the state government to honour the agreement reached between them and the state government and resume work without further delay.

The party in a statement issued by its Director of Information and Strategy expressed worry over the continuous strike embarked upon by both bodies saying such action could not aid the development of the state.

The release enjoined the striking staff of the institutions to in the interest of the state and the future of the students resume work, as the state government has promised to implement 75 percent of their request, while the remaining 25 percent would according to the state government be implemented as the economy of the state improves.

The party recalled that a meeting held between the representatives of the striking staff and the committee set up to resolve the strike under the leadership of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola twice last week has proved that the state government meant well for its labour force, especially workers at the state owned tertiary institutions.

Also, the ACN advised the striking staff of the institutions which include the state Polytechnic, Iree, state College of Technology, Esa-Oke and the state Colleges of Education in Ilesa and Ila Orangun to have absolute confidence in the administration of Mr Rauf Aregbesola and its resolve to promote the welfare of the work force in the state.

While urging the striking staff of the institutions to resume forthwith, the party stated that the state government would not breach the agreement reached at its last meeting with the leadership of their unions.

The party also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders and eminent personalities in the state to prevail on the striking tertiary institution workers in the interest of the students who are leaders of tomorrow and the state at large.
