Fuel subsidy removal: N-Delta Forum disowns ethnic group

BY DAPO AKINREFON

THE Niger Delta Nationalities Forum in Lagos State has disassociated itself from a group of ethnic nationalities which vowed to stop the Federal Government from its planned removal of fuel subsidy.

In a statement by its chairman, Mr Manager Seigha,  the group said it neither consulted nor invited for the meeting which held in Lagos.

According to Mr Seigha, “there are over four million Niger Deltans in Lagos. South East indigenes are as many in Lagos. President Goodluck won over 68% of total votes cast in Lagos. In fact Goodluck is a Lagosian.”

He, however, appealed to Nigerians to be patient with President Jonathan.

He said “We need to be a little patient with Mr President on issues like this. Transformation we all agreed but the process we want to stall it. I appeal to all of us to be courageous. It is not true that all the major ethnic nationalities in Lagos have taken such a position or decision on the fuel subsidy issue.”

In addition, it said “the Niger Delta Nationalities Forum Lagos with 27 Nationalities of the Niger Delta and resident in Lagos is not aware of such, neither were we invited to any such meeting at any time. On Ijaws in Lagos-only Kentebeh Amagbe of INC Lagos,Joseph Evah of Ijaw Monitoring Group, Anthony Oki of IYC Lagos, Regent Youmor of Ijaw Communities and Elder Asu Beks can speak.”
