Cairo – The lawyer of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Mr. Farid Al-Deeb, has admitted that Mubarak’s sons Alaa and Gamal have assets worth 340 million dollars in Switzerland.

In a magazine interview culled by the local media on Thursday, Deeb said the amount of money belonging to Mubarak’s sons, announced on Oct. 17 by Egypt’s Illicit Gains Authority, was correct.

Deeb argued, however, that the assets are legal.

He also said the former Egyptian president and his wife do not own a single dollar inside or outside Egypt, pointing out that the Illicit Gains Authority’s numbers  concerning money owned abroad by Mubarak and his wife is false.

The lawyer said the total funds owned by the two in Egyptian banks do not exceed six million Egyptian pounds (one million dollars).

Mubarak and his sons have been charged with corruption, and all three are under arrest, but  his
wife has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Egypt’s attorney general froze the assets of the former president’s family on Feb. 20, nine days after he was forced to stepped down by revolutionaries.

Mubarak is also facing charges of complicity in the killing of hundreds of revolution protesters. (PANA/NAN)
