A former member of the executive committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, Dr Peter Singabele has called on former Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia to have a rethink on his decision to take the NFF to court over outstanding salaries.

Speaking in a chat with Sports Vanguard yesterday, the medical doctor advised that Siasia should not have resorted to taking the case to court. “Siasia should not have gone to court. He is still a very young man and I believe there are a lot of other options he can still explore,” Singabele said.

Although he admitted that he was against “the hasty” sack of Siasia, the former board member of NFF said “Siasia made a grave mistake. He signed a contract with conditions he could not satisfy. If he promised to take the team to the semi final of the 2012 AFCON and he could not even qualify for the tournament proper, then he knew what would naturally follow.”

But he insisted that Siasia should not have gone to court. “He could still be recalled to handle that team in future. Many coaches have been sacked and recalled later. That is why he must move gently,” Singabele advised.

He recalled his heady days in the football house and said the problem confronting Nigerian football was as a result of the failure of the Sani Lulu-led board.

“The problem is multi-faceted. Siasia is the least problem of Nigerian football. The fundamental issues are being ignored. We still have the problem of the illegal status of the current board and lots more. We must search our minds and return to the basics if we must move forward.”
