ABEOKUTA- The people of Ibese community, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, have threatened to take Dangote Cement Plc to court over the company’s alleged failure to sign a Community Development Agreement, CDA, with the host community, as required by the law before the company commenced operation.

The community which hosts Dangote Cement factory in Ibese, yesterday, protested under the aegis of Ibese Central Community Development Association, ICDA,vowing to make the operation difficult for Dangote company, if it refused to sign the MoU.

On behalf of the people of Ibese community, the chairman of the association, Samuel Ajayi, said the community would not hesitate to take legal action against the cement company if pushed to the wall.

The chairman also warned that, “it does not guarantee what the actions of the youths will be over Dangote Group’s alleged refusal to respect the law as it relates to environmental protection of the community.”

The group claimed Dangote Group violated the Nigerian Minerals and Mines Act of 2007 by establishing a cement factory in 2009 without signing the MoU with the host community.
