BY Anayo Okoli

Umuahia-ABIA State House of Assembly has suspended Heads of Service and Treasurers of four local government councils and ordered that their counterparts in the remaining 13 councils of the state be transferred to the state civil service for frustrating government’s efforts at eradicating ghost workers.

This followed a matter of urgent public importance raised by Mr. Mba Ukaha, representing Ohafia South state constituency Tuesday, on the destruction of the biometric data capture machine as well as assault on the operators in Aba North, Ikwuano, Ukwa West and Ugwunagbo councils.

The House also requested Governor Theodore Orji and Head of Service of the state to implement the resolution to make for an overhaul of the local government system in the state.

Meanwhile, the House has set up a committee to investigate the wilful destruction of the biometric data capture machines by workers of Aba North, Ikwuano, Ukwa West and Ugwunagbo councils. It is headed by the deputy speaker, Chief Alwell Asiforo Okere.
