IBADAN- IN order to stem the poor performance in examinations by Oyo State students, especially in the West African Examination Council, WAEC, Governor Abiola Ajimobi says he has declared a state of emergency in the sector. The state was rated 34th out the 36 states in the last WAEC examination.

The governor made this known while meeting with heads of schools and other stakeholders in the education sector at the weekend on the need to rub minds and restore the system.

Ajimobi, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Adetokunbo Fayokun, lamented that the decline in the educational system was worrisome.

He said the discouraging standard of education in the state required that all stakeholders in the sector should put heads together to uplift it.

According to him, there was the need for all concerned to fashion out ways of addressing the decline and restoring the educational system.

To make the state an enviable one in the education sector, the governor has ordered that there would be uniformity in the scheme of work across the state and that compulsory extension after-school classes that would commence in the first week of November 2011 for pupils in SSS III so as to prepare them for mock examinations.
