The contest for the national chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, intensified, weekend, with a former Agriculture Minister, Dr. Shettima Mustafa, joining  the fray.

Mustafa, who was running mate to Dr. Nnamadi Azikiwe, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Peoples Party, NPP, in the 1983 presidential election, during a pre-launch chat with newsmen, declared, that his experience as the pioneer national secretary of the party and PDP engagements since then made him the best for the job.

Expressing his preparedness for the top party position, Mustafa, the pioneer national treasurer of the PDP, said:
“Cv for CV, I can stand up to anyone seeking the office and this is based on my earlier contributions to the party first as its first national treasurer and experience in other areas.”

“I believe that it is not right to lock up these experience and keep it somewhere.

My vision is also that PDP being the largest party would be open its doors so that collectively we would develop this country,” he said.

While pledging to enthrone transparency in the party, he said that if elected he would help the party to develop a vision that would position it to properly project into the future.

Mustafa who is 71 played down insinuations that he is too old for the job saying that his age and experience had properly positioned him to guide the younger generation.
