LAGOS – A 52-year-old police officer, Sgt. Alfred Kejawa, was, yesterday, arraigned before a Lagos State High Court, Igbosere, on  a one-count charge of murder.

Sgt. Kejawa, in the  charge, was alleged to have on October 30, 2011 at Commercial Road, Apapa Roundabout, Lagos State, in the Lagos Judicial Division murdered one Mohammed Heshimu, an offence contrary to Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 32, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State 1994.

Trial could not hold due to the prosecution’s failure to appear in court, while trial judge, Justice S.  Nwaka, had to adjourn the matter till November 8, 2011.

Meanwhile, Mr Femi Falana, did not appear in court as directed by Justice E. Adebajo, in another case, involving a suspect, Sunday Akinyemi, who was remanded in Ikoyi Prison but is currently receiving treatment in United Kingdom, UK.

Falana was represented in court by his wife, Mrs. Funmi Falana, who informed the court that the documents needed for proceeding were not ready, and requested for time to enable her husband gather all the documents. The court granted her request and adjourned the matter till November 18.

In another development, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had filed a 30-count charge against Olu Osho and Sunday Akinyemi for conspiracy to steal and alleged conversion of various sums of money belonging to Texas Connexion Services Limited. The court had earlier granted bail to Osho, who the court admitted was in dire need of the services of his traditional healer over an illness but refused bail for Akinyemi.
