Calabar Airport: Contractors bemoan non-payment for supply

By Johnbosco Agbakwuru

Calabar- NO fewer than 25 sub-contractors that made supplies for the renovation of Margaret Ekpo International Airport, weekend, lamented non-payment of their fees five months after completion of the project.

Margaret Ekpo International Airport was shut in May for complete renovation of the run-way. It was completed in August, certified and accepted by Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, on September 8 and re-opened same day.

Lamenting their plight to newsmen in Calabar, the sub-contractors, who spoke through Mr. Etebong Effa, said efforts made to recover their money from the main contractor, Jameon Nig. Ltd, had not paid-off, as it (Jameon) complained that FAAN had not released the contract sum.

According to the sub-contractors, who supplied chippings, stone base, bitumen, diesel among others, the agreement was that two weeks after supply was made, their money would be paid. They lamented that after the initial payment at the early stage of the contract, no other fund had been given them.
