AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri said Eagles defender, Taye Taiwo still need to improve after he put up a good showing against Belarusian side BATE Borisov in a UEFA Champions League tie Wednesday night.

Milan won 2-0 at the San Siro as Super Eagles defender Taiwo played the whole duration of the clash with a more lot more confidence than he displayed in his debut against Cesena in a Serie A game.

The left back even joined the attack and tried a couple of his trademark canon shots, which missed target.

“It was good to give Taiwo a chance to show what a good player he is. He’s getting a lot better in training,” said a pleased Allegri.

“He still needs to improve.”

Taiwo himself was pleased with the chance to show he has a place at the Italian champions after initial doubts.

“I’m happy to have played a big game and to have been able to help the team. I’m also happy because I’ve been able to show what I can do on the field,” said the 26-year-old defender.

“I’m getting more and more faith in my abilities in training and during the games and I think you can see that when I play.

“The league is very difficult; I’ve been watching lots of DVDs to learn what I can.

“In the Champions League the play is different. I know it a bit better than I know Serie A because I have some experience in playing there.”

He added: “I think Milan is a team that can compete anywhere with anyone. There’s a good feeling at the Milanello Sports Centre. I can’t be anything but happy here.”
