CONTRARY to the position of the ACN that the PDP is not serious about the elections, Public Relations Officer of the party, Mr. Gani Tofik told Vanguard that PDP has done its homework ahead of the polls. He also noted that the party’s greatest challenge is LASIEC’s alleged sympathy for the ACN.

What is the mood of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, ahead Saturday’s elections?

We are very prepared. I can assure you that we are participating this time, although we have not participated in the past. We are ready now because there is no development at the local level. The only advice that we can emphasise is that LASEIC must not compromise, because already they are manifesting that they are working for the ACN and Lagosians know it. People are tired and have resolved to vote out ACN, just as they purportedly voted out PDP in the south-west. They will stand by their votes and vote out ACN. If LASIEC allows itself to be used, then it will have itself to be blamed.

What are your challenges ahead the elections?

Any challenge that we have is coming from the activities of LASIEC. Of course we know that the electoral agency is carrying out the dictates of the Lagos State government. Some of our candidates have been shut out of the contest. As I am talking to you now our candidate in Ikorodu is having a problem. We have some local government areas where LASIC have shortchanged us. The same agency has also extended the treatment to other political parties. Some of them are not allowed to contest under the claim that INEC has not recognised them. Lagos state government is touted as a democratic government, it should not involve itself with federal matters.

The same federal government said they should not operate the LCDA, yet they are operating it. So, it is double standard, they select what they want to do. And what they want to do is what pleases them, if it does not please them they will oppose the federal government.

They will be voted out. If by Saturday we do not win at least thirty, you will know that the calculation is wrong.
