Ajimobi reinstates sacked Ibadan Poly ASUP boss

IBADAN— Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has ordered the immediate reinstatement of the sacked Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, The Polytechnic, Ibadan branch, Mr. Babatunde Dosunmu.

Ajimobi also approved the payment of the three months arrears of the Consolidated Tertiary Institution Salary Structure, CONTISS, which had been the subject of agitation among the polytechnic workers.

Dosunmu, it will be recalled, was sacked in 2009 by former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, following the protracted industrial action by the institution’s lecturers over their contentious welfare issues.

Governor Ajimobi issued the directive at a meeting he held with representatives of the three labour unions in the institutions; the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, ASUP, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics, SSANIP, and the Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU.

The labour leaders had, among other things, appealed for the reinstatement of the former ASUP chairman following his victory at the court.
