UYO—Disaster was averted, Monday, at Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation transmission station when fire broke out after a vehicle packed on the premises exploded at about 2.15am.
The arrival of the state fire service saved the situation.
According to an eyewitness some cans of unidentified chemicals, suspected to be explosives, were found around the car that exploded.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase had visited the scene of the incident and security beefed up in the area.
He advised staff of the station to go about their duty, as the situation was under control, adding that henceforth police will provide 24 hours surveillance of the station.
The Director-General of the corporation, Pastor Praise Okon, in his reaction, thanked men of the state fire service for their prompt response.
