Royal father escapes death

BY CHIDI NKWOPARA
OWERRI—The traditional ruler of Ifakala autonomous community, Mbaitoli Local Council Area of Imo State, Eze M.A.E. Ekerue, narrowly escaped death when a ten-man armed gang stormed his palace last weekend.

Vanguard investigation revealed that the armed hoodlums shot their way into the royal father’s palace but it was not clear at press time, if they were armed robbers or hired assassins.

Narrating his close shave with death, Eze Ekerue said the superior fire power of the gangsters forced his security men to scamper into safety.

It was further gathered that although no life was lost during the operation, the royal father however said that the dare devil gansters were finally checked from unleashing mayhem, following the timely arrival of security operatives to the scene.

Some villagers that spoke to Vanguard after the incident, appealed to the state government and security agencies to save them from “the incessant attacks by hoodlums in the community”.

As at press time, no arrest had been reported and the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Linus Nwaiwu, a deputy superintendent of police, DSP, could not be reached on his mobile line for comments.
