Ilorin – A 42-year old man, Samuel Afolayan, on Tuesday appeared before an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court for allegedly threatening to kill his neighbour’s baby.
Afolayan was arraigned on a one-count charge of criminal intimidation, which contravened Section 397 of the Penal Code.
The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Eniolohunda Earnest, told the court that the accused was reported have threatened his neighbour, one Mrs Rukayat Mohammed, that he would kill her baby.
According to the prosecutor, when questioned on why he instilled fear in the neighbour’s mind, the accused informed the police that Mohammed allegedly hissed whenever he passed by.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty of the offence.
The prosecutor objected to granting the accused bail because police investigation was still ongoing.
He said the accused could tamper with the investigation, and urged the court to remand him in prison.
When asked to comment, the accused said he had not appeared before any court previously and pledged to attend the trial regularly and punctually.
In his ruling, Magistrate Joel Michael ordered the release of the accused on bail in the sum of N10,000 with two sureties, and adjourned the case to Oct. 26 for further mention. (NAN)
