Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has ordered immediate employment for three visually impaired lawyers in the state government judicial service.

The gesture followed a plea by the lawyers for employment at a public forum yesterday to mark his 1,600 days in office.

The lawyers, who took a bold step during the question and answer session after being shunned by the state government officials to oblige them opportunity to ask the governor question are, Mr. Babatunde Safiu, Mr. Salamu Abolarinwa and Mr. Rotimi Anamo.

Their smart move paid off when they utilized the opportunity to request that they be consider for employment, saying they had faced series of rejection from the private sector because of their disability.

Fashola explained that, before now, he had had talks with the state Head of Service to evolve a quota for physically challenged in the state’s civil service.

The governor, directed the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Mr. Ade Ipaye to take their details, saying their disability did not in any way make them inferior to their fellow counterparts.

Fashola said the nation has failed to address the problem of the physically challenged in the society in the last 50 years, saying it was high time the leadership of the country to rose up to provide the enabling environment for skilled persons to utilize them to the benefit of the nation.

On the achievements of his administration in the last 100 days, he said the government has commenced the implementation of its electioneering promises to improve the quality of inner city roads as it has awarded new contracts for rehabilitation of eight roads in Aguda, 16 ageing roads in Mushin and three roads in Ogudu.
