AKURE—OIL producing communities in Ondo State have threatened to shut down activities of Oil companies operating in Ikorigho, Odonla and Molutehin water front over perceived neglect by the Federal and state governments.

Spokesman for aggrieved communities, Mr. Ayerin Williams, an engineer, told journalists in Akure yesterday that  the three major Oil producing communities had not benefitted from the three tiers of governments  either in appointments or  developmental projects.

Williams lamented that no indigene of the communities had been appointed into any position of authority by both the State and Federal governments except Hon. Raphael Nomiye who currently represents Ilaje/ Ese-Odo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

According to him about “seven oil fields with over two hundred and sixty oil wells are located in Ilaje Local Government out of which Ikorigho community produces over ninety percent of the total oil production.”

He said since the activities of the oil companies cut across the water front of the two kingdoms, the state and federal government should not be sentimental in the area appointment or benefit to avoid unwarranted crisis between the two kingdoms.
