BENIN—IJAW youths in Edo State has appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to prevail on the political leaders in the state to cede the position of the state representative in the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, to Ijaw when constituting a new board.
In a statement in Benin, Mr. Andrew Igiri, Ijaw youth leader in the state, commended President Jonathan for dissolving the former NDDC board and urged the President to ensure that only qualified people make the new board.
The youths alleged lack of NDDC projects in Ijaw communities in Edo State, adding that they were also marginalised in the constitution of the Edo State Oil Producing Communities Develop-ment Commission, EDSOPADEC.
He said: “We commend President Jonathan for the dissolution of the board of NDDC because it had turned to ‘Niger Delta individual pocket development commission’. There is no single NDDC project in Ijaw towns and villages in the state.”
