Lagos – Skye Bank on Sunday defeated Fidelity Bank, 1-0 to lift the Nigerian Bankers Games Trophy at Unilag Sport Complex Lagos.

Both teams appeared evenly matched as they ended the first half 0-0.

However, on resumption in the second half, Skye put their opponents on the defensive, forcing them to commit errors.

A Fidelity player committed a foul and the resultant free kick gave Skye Bank’s Ishmael Sanni the lone goal his side required to win in the 65th minute.

Coach Samuel Keegan of Skye, whose team won the competition three times in the past, said shortly after the match that he felt proud winning again.

’’The road has been very rough, even though we won all our matches. Having players who are ready to play was the strategy.

“I made sure I used them at the right time. I made my players to play the way I wanted them to and it came out positive.

“I am also proud to have won this competition in 2003, 2007 and now 2011,’’ Keegan said.

A disappointed, Coach Emmanuel Kayode of Fidelity Bank said a cancelled goal by his team, which was ruled offside, was on side.

“Although he was offside, but he did not interfere with the ball.

“The free kick that gave them victory was not deserved at all. I am disappointed with the technical official.

“The biased officiating is why the Nigerian league is not going forward’’.

NAN reports that the most valuable player was awarded to Kayode Agbalaja of Fidelity Bank while the top scorer award was bestowed on Ismeal Sanni of Skye, who was credited with scoring three goals.

Special guests present at the finals included, the Lagos State Commissioner for sports, Enitan Oshodi and the Group Managing Director, Skye, Kehinde Durosinmi.
