ABAKALIKI—EBONYI State command of the State Security Service, SSS, weekend, foiled a plot by some party supporters to destabilize proceedings at the Governorship Petition Tribunal sitting in Abakaliki.
A court messenger who gave his name as Mr. Ifeanyi Oti, was arrested and detained by men of the SSS for allegedly disrupting proceedings at the tribunal.
Vanguard reliably gathered that trouble started when the man, who went to the section of the tribunal where security personnel usually occupy in order to forestall any security breach within the court premises, decided not to vacate the area, despite pleas by men of the SSS.
It was reported that Oti, suspected to have been sent to the tribunal to cause mayhem, angered the security operatives who immediately arrested and detained him at the headquarters of SSS in
the state.
Sources close to the SSS in the Ebonyi revealed that apart from the numerous party supporters who have made it an obligation to always gather within the court premises in solidarity with their candidates,
some of the parties involved have decided to station their allies at the venue of the tribunal to disrupt court proceedings for their personal interest.
An SSS officer, who spoke to Vanguard on condition of anonymity regretted the high level of lawlessness exhibited by some party supporters noting that the presence of party supporters at the tribunal on daily basis had over time constituted security risk to members of the tribunal.
