Onitsha—More than 1,000 members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, who besieged Onitsha on Tuesday, erupted in spontaneous jubilation following the release of their 82-year-old member, Pa Samuel Onwuka.
The jubilant MASSOB members trooped into Onitsha purposely to celebrate the release of the octogenarian and eight other compatriots held with him.
They were released on September 29.
It was learnt that Onwuka had been in Kuje Prisons, Abuja, since 2006 until an Abuja Federal High Court, presided over by Justice Gabriel Kolawale, discharged and acquitted him unconditionally.
Members of the movement marched through major streets and markets in the commercial city, chanting songs of freedom.
Narrating his ordeal in detention, Onwuka thanked the Federal Government and prominent Igbo leaders for seeing to his release as well as quashing of the charges brought against him.
