THE mass failures being witnessed in external examinations in Nigeria has become a source of worry to all stakeholders, even as examination malpractices and other forms of cheating have become the order of the day.

Following reports of irregularities during these external examinations, Vanguard Education took a tour to some centers in the on going General Certificate of Education, GCE, examination to observe what goes on in the centers.

Centers our reporters visited include Agidingbi Senior Secondary School,Agidingbi Ikeja, Festac Senior Secondary School, and Ojodu Grammar School, among others.

At Agidingbi Senior Secondary School center, things flowed freely in the biology paper as invigilators and some of the school’s staff showed worked together to ensure a hitch-free examination.

One of the candidates, Abraham Eke who is also a student of Nigeria College of Administration, expressed satisfaction over the conduct of the exam. He said; “from the beginning of the examination, I have not witnessed any form of malpractice in this center as security is very tight for students to even think of cheating”.

According to him, “candidates in this center are over 200 but yet there was no malpractices of any kind”

Also,speaking with another candidate and student of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Cynthia Igho, noted that the issue of examination malpractice was not new among candidates and that it has become a regular occurrence during examinations. “But so far so good to me,exams had been going well, no malpractice, no fighting or quarrels between candidates and the invigilators”, she stated.
