The first season of the Lagos Junior League kicks off today with 58 teams from the 57 Local Government Areas and LCDAs participating.

According to the executive secretary of the LJL Taofik Aromire, the league which is in three divisions has 20 clubs in the Premier Division, 20 in Division 1 and 18 in the second division. He said that the league which ends in June 2012 will see teams play each other in a round-robin format.

Apart from the football league competition, there are also the League Cup and the LJL Cup which is likened after the English FA Cup.

Aromire said the ownership structure of the league management company was fashioned after the Major League Soccer in the USA and registered as Limited Liability Company.
