Onitsha— Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has expressed concern over alleged arrest, detention and harassment of its members by soldiers on internal security duties in Anambra and Enugu States.

Comrade Uchenna Madu, MASSOB’s National Director of Information, expressed the concern in an interview yesterday in Onitsha, Anambra State.

He said MASSOB would continue to maintain a “non-violence” approach to its agitation through the use of dialogue, local and international diplomacy.

He said: “We do not see the military men as having a constitutional right to arrest, torture and detain MASSOB members,

more so after the Presidency has given order for the release of all MASSOB members detained by the police.”

“The military’s continued arrest of MASSOB members is creating artificial tension in the land. Incidentally, the top commanders, the top officers are not even aware of these acts.”

“We see the arrests as also frustrating MASSOB, pushing us into violence so that they can now see more reasons to start killing MASSOB members. MASSOB will remain non-violent. Even in the face of the persecution, we will remain non-violent.”

“And all these arrest and unnecessary arbitrary arrest against MASSOB members; all these things is just to frustrate the government of President Goodluck Jonathan to create an impression as if there is insecurity in Nigeria.

“So we condemn it, we condemn it.”
