THE wife of the Ondo State governor Mrs Oluwakemi Mimiko  says  the best way to address the  challenges facing the people of the Niger Delta  is for  government at all levels to initiate programmes that will enhance the social and economic life of women in the region.

Mrs Mimiko said this during her maiden visit and interaction with women in Ilaje local government area of the state.

She charged women in the region to be actively involved in politics to enhance their  representation in government.

The First Lady said that women as instruments of political change and major factors in the  economy  deserve government’s attention at all times and should be properly integrated into the politics of the Niger Delta  because of their political and economic value.

The governor’s wife, who was full of enthusiasm at the occasion, suggested that  the federal and state governments  should come up with policies that will  sustain the  lives of women  so that they can feel involved in matters that border on the affairs of the region.

While assuring the people of the readiness of the state  administration to better their lot, Mrs Mimiko charged mothers to discourage their daughters from bad influence. She disclosed that her office will assist them in areas that will make them feel the impact of government.

Earlier, the chairman of Ilaje LGA, Prince Banji Okunomo, had lauded the governor’s wife for initiating the “Abiye” programme which he said would afford government to discover and address the plight of  women.
