Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar, has commended Inter-Bau Construction Limited on the completion of the N4.1billion River Port project, in Onitsha, Anambra State, saying the port will be commissioned soon to facilitate trade in the maritime sector of the economy.

The minister who gave the commendation during an inspection of the facility expressed satisfaction about the 95 per cent job completion. He said: “Inter-Bau has executed the project very well. The company has also supplied and installed necessary cargo handling equipment needed for operations to commence in the port. I am satisfied with the project and would inform the president who would soon come and commission the port.

“The location of the port is very strategic because Onitsha is the hub of business activities in the country”.

Chairman of Inter-Bau, Sir Nath Okechukwu, who conducted the minister and entire management team of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), round the port, said the company has experienced engineers in port construction and rehabilitation.

Technical Director of Inter-Bau, Mr. Okechukwu Ndika, said the port was ready for operations. He said: “All the equipment are supplied and installed within the port complex. The cranes are functioning efficiently and are capable of lifting 40-footer containers.”
