LAGOS- The threat of Boko Haram attack in Lagos could cost journalists opportunity of covering the opening ceremony of this year’s Hajj operations, which commences on October 2.
Indications to this emerged, Wednesday, when it was gathered that Federal Government, through National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, said due to insecurity in the country, largely caused by Boko Haram’s threat to bomb airports, journalists and other users of the facility may be barred from entering the restricted areas of the airports on Sunday for the exercise.
The ban, Vanguard gathered, was hinged on the fact that some elements might use the opportunity given journalists to cover the event to perpetuate criminal act, adding that the government would want to be pro-active on security issue in the country.
The source said that for journalists to be allowed to cover the event, they would be accredited for the exercise, adding that anyone without the accreditation would be prevented from the coverage.
The source said, “The Federal Government is concern about the insecurity in the country and the threat of the Boko Haram sect to bomb the airport. Government does not want publicity, but just being careful so that people don’t pretend to be journalists to perpetuate criminal acts.”
