LAGOS-NATIONAL Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees, NUBIFIE, has suspended its President and Treasurer, Mr Ade Martin Odigie and Mr Peter Ighegue, over alleged financial recklessness and other unethical practices.

National Administrative Council, NAC, which announced the suspension of the two officers at the union’s secretariat, Lagos, said the General Secretary, Mr. Elijah. Ola, had been asked to proceed on over eight years accumulated leave.

Briefing newsmen, Acting President of the union, Mr Peter Okafor, said the suspension became necessary to save the union from further damage and that a committee had been set up to ascertain the level of financial recklessness leveled against both officers.

According to him, “while it took almost four years into the administration of former President of the union before breaches of the constitution manifested, unfortunately, in less than 10 months into the administration of Odigie, the sheer volume financial malfeasance and large impropriety engaged in the by suspended officers was mind-boggling.”
