Yenagoa- Workers in Bayelsa State have given the state government and Association of Local Government Council of Nigeria, ALGON, a seven-day ultimatum to implement the new minimum wage or risk strike.

The workers, under the aegis of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, commended Governor Timipre Sylva for constituting a tripartite committee to ascertain the financial involvement of the N18,000 national minimum wage, which report had been concluded. However, they noted with dismay the non-implementation of the new wage in the state.

In a joint statement by Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, NLC chairman, and Mr. Yekorogha Collins, TUC chairman in Yenagoa, at the end of a meeting, the workers urged the state governor to immediately implement the recommen-dation of the committee he instituted to work out the modalities for the payment of the new wage.

They also requested all the chairmen of the eight local governments to implement the new minimum wage for the council workers.

They called on the governor to immediately implement the committee’s recommendation on Consolidated Health Salary Structure, CONHESS, for primary health workers at the local governments and pay the outstanding one month arrears owed health workers in the state.
